Kamala Vainy Pillai is an experienced trainer and lecturer in the field of business and management. With over 20 years of experience, in various sectors, namely corporate, service and civil society, Kamala enjoys training and development. She trains in various business subjects: sustainability tourism planning and management, responsible human resource management, project management, international business case study, customer relationship management, knowledge management and others. Currently, she is pursuing her Doctorate in the Open University of Malaysia whilst working as a freelance corporate trainer and lectures at various higher learning institutions in Kuala Lumpur.
Prior to this, she has held various portfolios. These include as the Country Manager for The International Herald Tribune, headquartered in Paris, France. She was responsible for the strategic expansion for the international newspaper in Malaysia through strong branding initiatives, aggressive market growth and strategic alliances. With her creative marketing approaches, she increased the readership in Malaysia by 151%. She completed her MBA (Masters in Business Administration) from the Victoria University of Technology, Melbourne Australia during her tenure with the Tribune. Before her stint with the media publishing industry, Kamala Vainy also worked in the tourism and hospitality industry in both management and training. First as the Manager at the Front Office of the prestigious Carcosa Seri Negara, owned by the Government of Malaysia that hosted state dignitaries, Heads of Governments and business leaders. She gained a deep appreciation of international marketing and cross-marketing strategies as the property was managed by the Amanresorts (Hong Kong) Limited, famed for its luxury group of Aman hotels around the world. Her desire to further understand the markerting process, saw her venturing into Marketing Communications when she joined Taylor’s University College – School of Hotel Management. A unique endeavour as the institution offered the French Hotel Management programmes (BTH Brevet de Technicien & BTS Brevet de Superieur) in partnership with the Ministry of Education of France. Added with a keen desire to give back to society, Kamala Vainy also served in non-governmental organisations that looked into social concerns both local and overseas.
Her keen interest in training and development started early in 1988. She was headhunted by Stamford Ladies College to serve in their “Tutorship” program. Later, she was promoted as Lecturer. After 5 years in the academic industry, she joined the hospitality industry. She continued to train on part-time basis on “Management & Case Studies” modules of the Institute of Administrative Management (United Kingdom) at Raffles Group of College. Kamala Vainy is also active facilitating Outward Bound Team Building trainings and has been invited to speak on various “character building and motivation” events. She also served as the Internal Auditor for ISO 9001:2000 at Informatics College. She has trained working professionals from a myriad of industries like oil & gas, consulting, multinationals, electronic, World Bank agencies, tread and fabric, telecommunications, the Attorney General’s Chambers (Prime Minister’s Department), construction and more.
A multilingual, she speaks English, Bahasa Malaysia, Tamil and French. With her rich experience in strategic management, relationship marketing, human capacity building, customer services and management, public relations as well as non-profit efforts, Kamala Vainy’s training is dynamic and exciting.
